An Intergalactic Night
An Intergalactic Night
As part of the regular series of BIMHUIS evenings, Space is the Place returns to our favourite music sanctuary on the IJ for An Intergalactic Night on the 15th of December. As usual, the evening will be an occasion to encounter new sounds across genres and performative arts, as well as to celebrate the release of the debut album by Sara Guidolin.
LINE-UP:
Sara Guidolin & friends | Sun-Mi Hong & Luis Lopes | Gershwin Bonevacia | Ernst Glerum

Sara Guidolin & friends
Multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Sara Guidolin presents her debut album everything i thought on monday: a collection of 8 original compositions, soundtracks for everyday life, approached with her naive surrealism. During An Intergalactic Night, Guidolin will perform on piano, cello and vocals, and she will be joined by three musicians also featured on the album: Timothè Lantoine (trumpet), Zenzele Mhtembu-Salter (doublebass) and Katerina Orfanoudaki (harpsichord).
Sun-Mi Hong & Luis Lopes

During An Intergalactic Night, two musicians coming from the jazz, free improvisation and experimental scene – Sun Mi Hong & Luís Lopes – are meeting for the first time as a duo! Guitarist Luis Lopes brings on his luggage work in different branches, with emphasis on working bands (Humanization 4tet, Lisbon Berlin Trio/Quartet, Valentin Ceccaldi’s BonBon Flamme) his Large ensembles (LFU-Lisbon Freedom Unit or Abyss Mirrors) as well as duos with Fred Lonberg-holm, Noel Akchoté, Julien Desprez, Jean-luc Guionnet, Jasper Stadhouders.
Drummer and visionary composer Sun-Mi Hong is one of the most inventive and creative drummers and musicians of her generation. On her creations, Hong offers an inventive and spacious soundscape, seamlessly blending meticulously crafted compositions with elements of improvisation.
Gershwin Bonevacia
Former Stadsdichter (city poet) of Amsterdam Gershwin Bonevacia is a writer, theatre maker, filmmaker, musician and podcaster known for his moving lyrics, his rhythmic performances and catchy wordplay. Sometimes intimate and deeply personal, then again zooming out from time, society or culture.
Ernst Glerum

Coming back as an outline for our Intergalactic line-up, Ernst Glerum will be the house pianist of the night. The prestigious double bass player has been a.o. a member of the Instant Composers Pool Orchestra (founded by drummer-composer Han Bennink) ASKO Ensemble (with recordings of Elliot Carter, Oestvolskaya, and Bruno Maderna) and numerous improvising music groups, including the J.C. Tans Orchestra, the Amsterdam String Trio, and many more.
