Album presentations by heavyweights Ada Rave and Andy Moor & Marta Warelis. Fun fact, both album presentations are released on New York City’s Relative Pitch. Two like-minded organizations hopping on board for this event: W.E.R.F. RECORDS (bringing SPOOK, Don Kapot!) and KEEP IT MOVING:
For 30 years, W.E.R.F. Records has been at the heart of the contemporary and exciting music endeavors of our dear Belgian colleagues at KAAP. Founded in 1993 at the influential De Werf arts center, the label has grown into a significant player in their nationwide jazz scene. Their catalog provides an overview of essential Belgian jazz acts from the 1990s and 2000s, as well as the newest names you ought to follow. Keep an eye out for their beautifully composed records on-site at the merch table, as well as more SITP x KAAP initiatives to come (hint!). Visit: https://www.kaap.be/werf-records
Keep it Moving represents the passionate community-driven energy the music scene needs. Internationally-oriented, the crew is based and united in the heart of Holland, Utrecht. Through their weekly Saturday morning show at Stranded FM with lively guests, frequent multidisciplinary events, and fundraisers, they channel a consistent flood of love for dub, jazz, warm grooves, other forms of experimental music, and most of all, care for one another. The DJs of the lot will guide you through the solstice hours, the other creative minds bring an installation, inviting both body and mind, thoughts and emotions, to dance around its moving circles. 20:35-21:00 ADA RAVE SOLO
On this Solstice Night both Ada Rave and the duo Marta Warelis/Andy Moor will celebrate their new album releases on the Relative Pitch label from New York. Argentinean-born saxophonist Ada Rava is a well-known improviser in the Amsterdam scene. Her new solo album In Search of a Real World is a collection of sonic poems and images inspired by her own search for a reality that feels more tangible and less virtual than our present one.
21:20-22:00 SPOOK
Belgian bands SPOOK and Don Kapot are connected to W.E.R.F. Records, the label of the KAAP arts center, which has close ties to Space Is the Place. SPOOK has an allure of ‘free country’ or ‘post western’, combining sparse themes and intricate rhythms. The trio features Simon Segers (De Beren Gieren, Black Flower) on drums, Nicolas Rombouts (Ottla, Dez Mona) on double bass and Filip Wauters (The Wodads, BackBack) on pedal steel and guitar.
22:20-22:55 MARTA WARELIS / ANDY MOOR
Andy Moor is best known for his propulsive electric guitar playing in the Ex and Dog Faced Hermans. He has previously collaborated with Marta Warelis, a pianist who’s also based in Amsterdam and who has a strong preference for improvisation and experiment in all kinds of styles. On their new album Escape on Relative Pitch Records, repetitive rhythms rise and fall and deconstruct at any given time into wicked craze. It is their first album as a duo together.
23:10-23:55 DON KAPOT
Brussels-based power trio Don Kapot has been blowing minds at festivals with their blend of free jazz, afrobeat and krautpunk, full of samples and unusual rhythms. Their recent album ILove Tempo was produced by Greg Saunier, drummer of the American band Deerhoof. Don Kapot features Giotis Damianidis on bass, Viktor Perdieus on baritone saxophone and Jakob Warmenbol on drums.
After the concert the Keep it Moving DJ’s will continue well into the night!
