MERAL POLAT & CHRIS DOYLE
Meral Polat is an actress, singer-songwriter, and theatre maker. In her music, she explores, among other things, her Kurdish background. In 2025, her trio released the album Meydan, a bold ode to female strength and independence. On the album, the trio weaves Anatolian and Mesopotamian music with vibrant influences from Malian blues and Nigerian afrobeat. Meral opens Wiel Klanken 2026 together with keyboardist Chris Doyle.

SAKINA ABDOU
Experimental saxophonist and composer from Lille, known for her bold and expressive approach to contemporary and improvised music. With her solo Goodbye Ground, she pushes the boundaries of jazz, free improvisation, and experimental sound, creating a unique voice that combines intensity with subtlety. For Wiel Klanken, she takes on the challenge of interacting outdoors with the surroundings and with you as the listener! Join the adventure and experience the sonic possibilities of the saxophone.

Sakina Abdou – tenor sax

ADULIS
Adulis plays music from East Africa. Ethiopian jazz and traditional Eritrean music, centering on the voice and the electric krar of Semere Welday. For years, Adulis has played in Eritrean restaurants or at underground parties and festivals. But they have never played in a Zunderdorp farmhouse next to the cowshed: a dream location. Expect rousing improvisations and inviting, danceable melodies and rhythms.

GERSHWIN BONEVACIA & MICAH D GRAVES
Gershwin Bonevacia, former City Poet of Amsterdam, is a writer, theatre maker, filmmaker, musician, and podcaster. He is known for his moving lyrics, rhythmic performances, and catchy wordplay. His work is sometimes intimate and deeply personal, yet at other times offers a broader perspective, detached from time, society, or culture. Today, he recites his powerful texts accompanied by pianist Micah D Graves in the magnificent church of Durgerdam.

EVENING PROGRAM

YAKUA
Yakua is an exciting eleven-piece band led by Gerard Doorson, featuring an exhilarating mix of percussion and rich vocal melodies. The band is known for their powerful Kaskawi and captivating Kawina, but also plays other Surinamese music styles such as Samboera and Lala. In the rhythm section, you can hear instruments like the skratjie, hari, bangi, koti, sek seki, and timbal. With their energy and strong sound, they get every audience moving.

ZUCO 103
A Dutch band with a unique musical style of its own: ‘Brazilectro’ – a combination of Brazilian, jazzy, and electronic elements. Zuco has played at just about every music festival in the Netherlands and experiments without becoming inaccessible. With deep grooves and led by the charismatic frontwoman Lilian Vieira, it will be hard to sit still. Their new album was recently released, in which 25 years of experience and many new ideas fly at you. Lilian Vieira – vocals | Stefan Schmid keyboards | Stefan Kruger drums

CIRCUSBENDE
Circusbende has quickly become a well-known name in Amsterdam. The multi-day festivals are stimulating total experiences for all ages, in which all senses, and especially the imagination, are stimulated to the extreme. During Wiel Klanken, the Brazilian Leles (Brazil/Belgium) will perform two acts in which she uses her body and sense of humor in full glory.

TREEHOUSE NDSM
This year, the final location of Wiel Klanken is Treehouse, right in the middle of the NDSM site. In this playground for serious artists, countless creatives work on their art daily inside stacked containers. Dinner takes place in the center of this site, where you can experience various performances and concerts on two stages. Treehouse itself will also make its presence known with tours of the complex and performances by artists active there.

Het project is mede mogelijk gemaakt door een subsidie voor eenmalige kunst- en cultuuractiviteiten van stadsdeel Noord, Amsterdam
