– Screening of the experimental short film ANSAGE ENDE with live performance beforehand by Verena Barié, Gerri Jäger and Sjoerd Leijten, who are also the participating musicians in the film.
– The sublime baritone saxophone explorer Giuseppe Doronzo
– The Belgian phenomenon Manu Louis with his “Pop fantastique et Fantasque”

ANSAGE ENDE

The experimental short film ANSAGE ENDE (by Stijn Verhoeff & Sjoerd Leijten) is an artistic reflection on being engaged with the world. Combining fiction and documentary, music and text, this hybrid film calls for a collective and activist approach to the climate crisis.

An experimental musical score strengthens the joyful militancy of the activists and leads the narrative of the film to a third location: an old barn. Here, surrounded by animals and farm life, three musicians play music; their tunes travel to the many corners of the farm. With subverting fragments of text mixed through the music, they call for more radical action and hint at overthrowing the economic elite.

The musicians will play a live set and let this flow into the movie. They will be modulating samples of the film’s field recordings and interviews live on stage.

GIUSEPPE DORONZO

As lover of unexplored space, border crossing sounds, Giuseppe focuses his research mainly on the baritone saxophone, aiming to explore a vocabulary that goes through his background in contemporary classical music, jazz improvisation and his interest for non-western music. However, this also brings him to discover and explore other wind instruments. During this concert Giuseppe will play baritone saxophone and ney anban (Iranian bagpipe).

Giuseppe (1987) was born in Barletta, a very old town on the Adriatic coast of Puglia, Italy. In 2012 he moved in Holland to study jazz, at Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen, where he graduated Cum Laude in 2015.

He has worked with creative artists covering various fields of the national and international art including: Michael Moore, Joe Lovano, Chris Potter, Vince Mendoza, Han Bennink, NDR Big Band, João Bosco, Robin Eubanks, Ralph Alessi, Benjamin Herman, Jim Black and many more.

MANU LOUIS
Belgium born, Manu Louis travels with a village of electronic instruments and video projections from pop stars or animals to deliver passionate performances that eventually switches gears into an impromptu discotheque.

His music mixes high and low culture to create provocative and decontextualized juxtapositions. His general blueprint remains the same throughout all of his efforts, but the ingredients he uses may vary: from dissident chanson française, genial dilettante, avant-garde composer, new beat, old hit, art-pop & hard bop.

Cream Parade, his new album is a disoriented walk led by synthetizers. It was released in May 2019 on Igloo Records and followed Kermesse Machine (2017) his first album. The last three years Manu performed at over 300 festivals and clubs across Europe and Asia.
