A rich & international evening full of movement – with soundscapes, refined compositions & free, masterly improvisations!

PAYNE / D.KUMMER / VITOLS

Payne / D.Kummer / Vitols aims to celebrate the lack of definition. Made of international musicians based in Amsterdam, the trio creates hectic soundscapes that constantly withstand turbulent shifts in state; from pointillism to stasis, through intricately layered frames and rhythmical elasticity; each member (all leaders and composers) explores his natural penchant for playfulness with refined ferocity. In contrast with its rather humble instrumentation, the band shows great concern for carefully orchestrated structures and spectral density!

Alistair Payne – trumpet | Uldis Vitols – double bass | Tancrede D Kummer – drums

SANEM KALFA SOLO

Sanem Kalfa is a Turkish singer with a distinctive style, mixing jazz, improvisation, and world music into a powerful blend of emotions. After studying cello, she moved from Turkey to the Netherlands to study singing. Sanem is currently based in Amsterdam, performing worldwide and pleased to teach music to students (from any age and background). Her main aim is to be a part of an experience that will help enriching life by music.

Sanem Kalfa – voice, cello, electronics

LUIS VICENTE TRIO

Luis Vicente is a Portuguese trumpet player based in Lisbon. He plays in several groups with different concepts – from totally free to composed music – having always present the sense of freedom. The last years Luis Vicente is more and more present in the international scene. After the success of his partnership with John Dikeman, William Parker and Hamid Drake, Vicente turns to national silver, represented here by Gonçalo Almeida and Pedro Melo Alves. According to Hamid Drake (in the liner notes) Vicente’s work is a lesson about «looking and searching for new possibilities, broadening one’s views». The trio of Luis Vicente is a joy to listen to with their refined compositions and masterly improvisations.
