RODRIGO AMADO/JASPER STADHOUDERS/ONNO GOVAERT
On August 28, the prolific Portuguese saxophone player Rodrigo Amado and veteran experimentalist Dirk Serries met for the first time for a duo concert at JazzBlazzt. This concert was released on limited cassette on Colin Webster’s label Raw Tonk Records.
Guy Peters wrote (freely translated): “Amado’s music is mostly situated in the simmering, soulful versions of free jazz. The tenor saxophone player stays connected to the tradition, even when his improvisations dive deep into improvisation. Very unlike the music of Dirk Serries, who started out playing industrial, noise, and ambient music. So this duo combines soulful music, with a Southern sensibility, with an abstract, detached sound.”
On this night, Amado will team with Amsterdam locals Jasper Stadhouders and Onno Govaert for a second set as a trio.
