An Intergalactic Night | Mishakosmos
As part of the regular series of BIMHUIS evenings, Space is the Place returns to our favourite music sanctuary on the IJ for An Intergalactic Night on the 1st of June. As usual, the evening will be an occasion to encounter new sounds across genres and performative arts, as well as to honour and celebrate the music of Misha Mengelberg within the framework of the Mishakosmos Festival.
LINE-UP:
Terrie Ex & Emma Fischer | Meis Vranken | Beatrice Sberna & friends | Ernst Glerum
Terrie Ex & Emma Fischer

Founding member of the legendary band The Ex (1979), Terrie Ex still run their incredibly exciting live concerts. As a solo improviser, he’s on an endless search for unconventional and unusual guitar sounds. At An Intergalactic Night, he will present Flaps (2025) the fascinating solo album he released via Terp, the co-label he co-founded with his wife Emma Fischer, who will join the performance painting live.
MEIS VRANKEN – FLAT NEWS

Multidisciplinary artist Meis Vranken, also known as the singer of art punk band Yodel Queen, works with subjects taken from her own daily life. After making a movie about the morning, punk-songs about office plants and essays about the garbage bin, she now presents Flat News: a brand new music performance centred around her own house.

BEATRICE SBERNA & FRIENDS

Rooted in jazz and driven by a deep love for Italian music, Beatrice Sberna moves freely across genres, incorporating elements of noise and other unexpected sonic territories. Reflecting a wide emotional spectrum – clumsy, tender, sharp, ironic, and unsettling – her music embraces vulnerability and unpredictability, making her a distinctive voice in Amsterdam’s emerging improv scene. During An Intergalactic Night, she will perform new music alongside Tanine Kian (piano), Aniol Torrents (bass), and Ludvig Sondergaard (drums), presenting a set of written and improvised material with a strong sense of narrative and theatrical presence.
Ernst Glerum
Coming back as an outline for our Intergalactic line-up, Ernst Glerum will be the house pianist of the night, for this occasion celebrating the work of Misha Mengelberg. The prestigious double bass player has been a.o. a member of the Instant Composers Pool Orchestra (founded by drummer-composer Han Bennink) ASKO Ensemble (with recordings of Elliot Carter, Oestvolskaya, and Bruno Maderna) and numerous improvising music groups, including the J.C. Tans Orchestra, the Amsterdam String Trio, and many more.

Mishakosmos Festival (May 24 – June 7) will take place at various locations in Amsterdam, including De Roode Bioscoop, Studio K, Takland, De Richel, OCCII, Splendor, Zaal 100, De Kring, and BIMHUIS. The festival honors and celebrates the wacky and wonderful musical world of composer, pianist, and philosopher Misha Mengelberg (1935-2017). His music is alive as ever and continues to inspire musicians worldwide.
