An Interplanetary Night
Saint Abdullah & Jason Nazary bring high-impact, exhilarating free jazz to the BIMHUIS, for An Interplanetary Night on Saturday, 4 April

Since 2018, Space is the Place and BIMHUIS organise progressive programs of adventurous jazz and improvised music, Interplanetary & Intergalactic Nights. The evenings are aimed to inspire and to introduce people to varied, powerful and challenging music featuring artists from the vibrant Amsterdam scene as well as international artists representing diverse subcultures.
For the new Interplanetary Night – taking place on Saturday, 4 April 2026 – we are delighted to host incredible blends of improvised jazz and electronics with an explosive international line-up.
LINE-UP:
Saint Abdullah & Jason Nazary | 12 Tribes of Mars | Neon River | Brandon Lopez | Margaux Oswald | Loradeniz
Saint Abdullah & Jason Nazary

Operating in a zone where free jazz combusts with dreamlike collage, Saint Abdullah & Jason Nazary combine sampled Sufi chants, radio static, modular synths and improvisation, folding into a playfully chaotic storm of human presence and digital interference. Their music moves fluidly between extremes: tender, limpid passages that drift and dissolve, and full-force eruptions where rhythm, noise and melody collide without warning.
Their latest album Wiretaps For Oral pushes this language further, sampling speech and brass into a hallucinatory suite for a time of surveillance, anti-war marches and state oppression.
Onstage, nothing is fixed. Drawing from the tools of free jazz – behind their drum kit and table of electronics – bending forms, fracturing tempos and manipulating textures. What emerges is a thrilling, electrified collaboration, an open circuit where energy passes freely, and the possibilities remain endless.
After their ground-breaking performances at Rewire and Le Guess Who?, the New York-based outfit returns to the Netherlands for a duo performance at BIMHUIS.
Brandon Lopez
The work of bassist, composer, and improviser Brandon López deals with finding new modalities and sonic possibilities on the double bass. Whether counterpointing poetry – as in his collaboration with Fred Moten – free-wheeling between grooves and jams with his trio, or making his strings squeal in his solo experimentation, he is an artist whose performances can’t be predicted, but only experienced on the moment.
Thanks to his musicianship, he reached the top position as Rising Star Bassist of the Year (in the Downbeat Critics Poll) was featured as soloist with the New York Philharmonic, and has collected an impressive list of self-styled performers, including Fred Moten, Gerald Cleaver, John Zorn, Zeena Parkins and Tyshawn Sorey.
12 Tribes of Mars
Leave earth behind and step into the world of 12 Tribes of Mars, imagined through rhythm, movement and sound. Rooted in the foundations of reggae, ska, and dub, the project pushes these traditions far beyond their familiar shapes, infusing them with free improvisation, electronics, and an unfiltered experimental spirit. What begins as a deep, infectious groove can quickly fracture into wild, exploratory detours, only to snap back into rhythm as if pulled by gravity. Their music is simultaneously raw and sensual, gritty yet groovy. On stage, 12 Tribes of Mars thrive on transformation: trance-inducing acoustic patterns dissolve into chaotic improvisations before reassembling into pounding, collective momentum. Formed in 2022 by a group of jazz-trained musicians comfortable in the spaces between genres, the project has since carved out a strong presence across festivals and alternative venues. Live performances unfold as intense, psychedelic journeys that double as dance rituals, leaving audiences suspended somewhere between the dancefloor and deep listening.

Neon River
Drawing subtle parallels to artists like Aphex Twin, Floating Points, or Flying Lotus, Neon River’s sound is built on the interplay between sculpted synth lines, grounded bass, and expressive live drumming, creating textures that feel both refined and visceral. The Amsterdam-based electronic trio, with members coming from Korea, Portugal and Brussels, describe their sound as “heart touching and hard grooving.”. Open melodies float above crisp, forward-moving grooves that feel raw and constantly in motion. Shaped by their broad experience across experimental, jazz, and electronic scenes, the project distils these influences into a forward-leaning live presence.
Margaux Oswald
Pianist Margaux Oswald moves decisively toward the edges of free improvisation. Born in Geneva with a French–Filipina background and now based in Copenhagen, she has been immersed in the piano since early childhood, developing a voice that balances precision, physicality and risk. Her solo debut Dysphotic Zone, released on Clean Feed Records, was widely recognized. Deeply embedded in Copenhagen’s experimental scene, Oswald has been involved in a range of collaborative projects. Whether performing solo or within expanded line-ups, her music unfolds with intensity and focus. Live performances are charged, exploratory encounters where structure dissolves and reassembles in real time.
Loradeniz
Loradeniz is the alter-ego of Deniz Omeruglu, pianist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, sound designer, producer and DJ. With roots in classical piano and deep studies in composition and sound design, she creates music that blurs the boundaries between electronic, cinematic and experimental music. She has composed music for short films, served as music director for theatre and contemporary dance projects, and crafted soundscapes for 3D installations and exhibitions. Her performances, whether live or behind the decks, are marked by processed vocals, deeply layered melodies, jarring percussion, and hypnotic rhythms. Past performances include standout sets at Sonar, Dekmantel and De School.
