On Saturday, 14 November, SITP returns to Cinetol with a rich program of improvised music. Organised in collaboration with RAUW, Cinetol & de Appel, the line-up features local and international improv legends who present their own sets as well as jam with each other.
LINE-UP:
Amadou / Ribot / Smith | Run Into The Apocalypse | Frank Rosaly’s Ruidoscuro | Jens Bouttery solo | Nufaro | + numerous improv sessions
Amadou / Ribot / Smith

Marc Ribot says… Last year, Ches Smith called and said “you should check out this gig I’m doing tonight with bass player Farida Amadou”. It was the most intense, exciting music I’ve heard in decades. Afterwards, I said to Farida and Ches: “let’s jam!”.
Spontaneously sparked out of shared curiosity and jam sessions, this trio features three distinctive characters of the improvised music scenes internationally, coming to Amsterdam for their first show together in town. This new trio explores the outer reaches of where their diverse improvisational backgrounds may take them.
Electric bassist Farida Amadou is known for her raw, intuitive approach to improvisation, and she has become a vital force in experimental music, collaborating with artists such as Thurston Moore, Peter Brötzmann and Moor Mother. Iconic guitar innovator Marc Ribot and “one of the wiliest drummers on the experimental scene” Ches Smith are long-time collaborators with their post-rock-agit-punk band, Ceramic Dog.
Run Into The Apocalypse
Run Into The Apocalypse moves through the shifting space between acoustic and electronic sound. Live electronics, sampling and digital textures intertwine with improvisation, creating a constantly transforming sonic landscape. Embracing instability and change, the trio turns noise and interference into compositional materials. Rita Brancato’s hybrid drum kit explores the possibility of harmonic content, sustained sounds, words, chords and melodies, and even the illusion of hundreds of drums playing simultaneously. Joined by Andrea Leone (tenor saxophone) and Massimiliano Dosoli (clarinet and effects) the trio collectively explores the possibilities of electronics applied to acoustic instruments, dissolving the boundaries between instruments, machines and performers in a search for new timbres and new ways of listening.
Frank Rosaly’s Ruidoscuro
Quartet Ruidoscuro presents strict sequential patterns against improvisation to inhabit ritualistic musical movement. The music tells a dark, haunting story in a richly layered context of spinning polyrhythms, bi-tonal melodic material, and pivoting harmonic structures in a new music that defies centralization. Layered systems of repetition, trance-based cycles, and melodic motifs spin and bridge one another, creating space for the listener to become lost in the raw energy of this powerful ensemble. Led by drummer Frank Rosaly, the group features The Ex’s guitarist Andy Moor, and pianist Marta Warelis, multi-instrumentalist Ibelisse Guardia Ferraguti on keyboards and electronics; and for this occasion they will be joined by Lida Brouskari on synths.
Jens Bouttery solo
Drummer, composer & producer Jens Bouttery works in a wide range of disciplines from music to film, theatre & dance work internationally. The drumset is his home base but he became a multi-instrumentalist throughout the years, curious for other input, unpolished mastery or DIY-builds for instruments. His artistic universe converges around exploring freedom within compositional performance structures. Live drums, orchestral works, experimental sound design, pop songs, underground dance or even metal music are an inspiration to his work. All musical styles are a possible influence as long as they have a natural connection to the core of the work and as long as they create a unique and organic world for the project.

Nufaro
Experimenting with sound design and unconventional arrangement Nufaro explore the boundaries of pop music, aiming to challenge conventions and clichées of songwriting. More than creating collections of songs, they adopt a storytelling perspective and create long narratives that inform their work, with strong references from the ‘70s psychedelic rock approach.
