Ben LaMar Gay

Ben LaMar Gay is a composer and cornetist from Chicago, who moves sound, color, and space through folkloric filters to produce electro-acoustic collages. His unification of various styles is always in service of the narrative and never solely a display of technique. For years Ben has been an active force both in Chicago’s experimental music scene as internationally. We are very excited that he will be performing this evening at Salon de IJzerstaven with two generations of Amsterdam based musicians: legendary bass player Wilbert de Joode and the young upcoming pianist Lida Brouskari.

XICO RIBAS
Improviser and sound artist Xico Ribas explores the melting point between harmonious and disruptive soundscapes through generative live-sets.
On the 8th of May, he presents his solo project Som Florint (Catalan for “when we blossom, we are / when we are, we blossom”), transforming the piano in a vast speaker. Encircled by additional speakers and intertwined with microphones, the system generates a new sonic entity, a living environment in which instrument and space melt into an active presence to interact with.
In this new sonic space, field recordings, generative synths and distorted feedback weave with Xico’s minimalist piano lines and vocals, giving way to lush, sensuous compositions that balance silence and resonance through pop structures and sudden bursts of noise.
Beatrice Sberna & Omer Govreen

Rooted in jazz and driven by a deep love for Italian music, Beatrice Sberna moves freely across genres, incorporating elements of noise and other unexpected sonic territories. Her music embraces vulnerability and unpredictability, making her a distinctive new voice in Amsterdam’s improv scene. This night she will play with bassist Omer Govreen from the Orbits collective, also a very active player in the Amsterdam impro & jazz scene and an accomplished composer and bandleader (Omer Govreen Quartet, Garden Crack).
