Space is the Place & Cinetol join forces again – this time for a Spring Fest! The sound of crashing guitars and angelic harmonies collide on this evening, driven by a new generation of artists in town and spectacular additions from both near and far. On the line-up: AVA, Ingoma Yesintu, Carta Pesto, Foon, Nina Garcia, qventure time.

NINA GARCIA
Nina Garcia is a Parisian guitarist and sound artist who reimagines noise and improvisation through the electric guitar in her singular style. Since 2015, she has been fusing a minimalist approach with a maximalist effect–raw, instant soundscapes that explore the connection between body and instrument. Her unpretentious yet deeply engaging approach often uses electromagnetic microphones to capture the subtlest vibrations of her guitar, while simultaneously using the instrument’s outer edges and FX pedals in an in-your-face style. She has performed throughout Europe and North America, sharing the stage with artists such as Stephen O’Malley, Fred Frith, and Sophie Agnel. After a decade under the Mariachi guise, she releases Bye Bye Bird, her first album under her own name, in February 2025 on Ideologic Organ.

INGOMA YESINTU
Ingoma Yesintu—meaning Song of Humanity or Folk Song in isiZulu—is led by bassist-composer Zenzele Mthembu-Salter, who writes and arranges the music of this acapella ensemble with a firm focus on voices. With subtlety and grace, it features six singers, double bass, and percussion, centering on vocal harmonies with South African grooves and rhythms. The choir is made up of talented locally based Conservatorium vocalists from all across the world, drawing inspiration from African gospel choirs, classical chorales, traditional chants, jazz, and free improvisation.

CARTA PESTO
Carta Pesto channels garage-style energy, fusing playful electronics with skillful instrument play. Comprised of Marco Luparia, Beatrice Sberna, and Chaerin Im, the trio creates a sound that’s experimental yet fun. From raw vocal textures to electric bass grooves and piano improvisation, their music is always sparking. All well-known faces in the Amsterdam scene, they bring a DIY flair, embracing the spontaneity and chaos of this occasional combo while staying true to the spirit of improvisation.

AVA TRIO
AVA Trio blends rhythm, noise, and melody, weaving folk traditions with improvisation. Giuseppe Doronzo, Esat Ekincioglu, and Pino Basile turn rhythm into noise, noise into melody, and melody into rhythm, drawing in audiences at festivals like Doek and XiHu Blooms. Their debut album, Music from an Imaginary Land (2017), earned a spot on NPR’s Best Debut Album list for its bold, multifaceted sound. In 2023, they released Ash, an EP that unearths the forgotten sounds of ancient cities like Knossos and Pompeii.

FOON
Foon is a duo by Andrius Dereviancenko and Ruben Kieftenbeld that initiates their intricate music with simple, repetition-based structures that gradually build up, incorporating new layers until they create beautiful, complex pieces. The interaction between saxophone sounds and the electronic achieves a delicate balance, transitioning from familiar, traditional melodies to the innovative sculpting of sound. With a blend of modern electronic instruments and digital tricks, they create a fusion of the old and the new. At the performance’s core lies the saxophone, an instrument that hasn’t changed much since its creation in the mid-19th century, yet its sound continues to evolve through its presence across different continents, ethnicities, and cultural groups.

QVENTURE TIME
QBAE is the performing core of collective-label KB_: a rotating ensemble hosted by Gabriel de Oliveira and Niels Luteijn. With a mixed emo/afro/impro approach, the Brazilian and Caribbean references of this guitar-plus-drums duo take on a hardcore edge, coded through languages of instant composition and pop. For a set of exclusively punk-leaning Adventure Time songs and relentless noise impro, they invite special guest Winnie Conradi (The Klittens, Beatrix) and become QVENTURE TIME. Unexpected adventurous journeys of ex-roommates and best friends ahead!
