SPACE IS THE PLACE X MUSIC MEETING
7 June @ 15:00 – 9 June @ 22:00
@MUSIC MEETING FESTIVAL
PARK BRAKKENSTEIN – NIJMEGEN
Music Meeting Festival cuts across styles, genres and cultures, worldwide. The global music festival has been offering a stage to artists worldwide for over 35 years: musicians who have rarely or never been seen in the Netherlands, with new projects or in special compositions.
During the Pentecost weekend (7,8,9 June) Nijmegen is dedicated to three days of musical encounters and discovery through a program in which cultural stories resonate: from the latest salsa from Cuba to innovative jazz from Norway, from indigenous voices from Australia to the Asian avant-garde. This year Space is the Place again participates in the program with Ingoma Yesintu, the acapella ensemble of Zenzele Methembu-Salter.

Ingoma Yesintu
Ingoma Yesintu—meaning Song of Humanity or Folk Song in isiZulu—is led by bassist-composer Zenzele Mthembu-Salter, who writes and arranges the music of this acapella ensemble with a firm focus on voices. With subtlety and grace, it features six singers, double bass, and percussion, centering on vocal harmonies with South African grooves and rhythms. The choir is made up of talented locally based Conservatorium vocalists from all across the world, drawing inspiration from African gospel choirs, classical chorales, traditional chants, jazz, and free improvisation.
