SPACE IS THE PLACE X WORM X NORTH SEA ROUND TOWN
4 July @ 00:00 – 23:59
@ WORM | TICKETS € 12,-
Space is the Place teams up again with WORM (Rotterdam) and North Sea Round Town to present an evening featuring adventurous, authentic, multidisciplinary musicians: Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti with her project Awichas, Albatre & Peter Somuah.

AWICHAS
ACHIWAS is a new project by Bolivian-born singer and multi-disciplinary artist Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti, drawing from Andean traditions where sound is a link between worlds, deeply tied to ecology, community, and cyclical time. Working with both acoustic and electronic sounds, Ibelisse is joined by sound artists and musicians Jochem van Tol, Frank Rosaly, Jacob Maskell-Key, and singer Julia Werner. As an ensemble, they present a multimedia concert, combining microtonal flute data from ancient Andean rituals and translating it into electronic instrumentation, drums, and voices. Here, subversive memories of the mountain’s overground, repetitive rhythms, and trance-inducing tonalities meet, melt, and converse with the underground echoes of the city’s nightly club music. This project, premiering in 2025, was developed through Ibelisse and Jochem’s residencies in Bolivia and at EMS (Elektronmusikstudion) in Stockholm and is supported by Space is the Place.

Albatre
Albatre is an experimental trio based in Rotterdam, blending raw bass and sax noise with skewed jazz, frantic yet precise drumming, and sudden mood shifts. Their sound is urgent and unrelenting, balancing improvisation with controlled chaos, while pinching in moments of nuance and detail to temper their volatile mix. Everything emerges in distortion, driven by beats that are sometimes heavy, sometimes crazily fast. With Gonçalo Almeida on bass, keyboards, and electronics, Hugo Costa on alto and baritone sax with effects, and Philipp Ernsting on drums and electronics, they are part of a growing micro-scene in the Netherlands, operating at the crossroads of improv, noise rock, and jazz.

Peter Somuah’s 56 Miles Away
Somuah is a trumpeter from Accra, Ghana, shaped by the sounds of highlife, Afrobeat, and jazz. Drawn to the instrument’s ability to be both celebratory and introspective, he found inspiration in Ebo Taylor, Hugh Masekela, and Miles Davis, whose music transcended genres and borders. After relocating to Rotterdam, he became part of the city’s vibrant jazz and improvisation scene, forming his own band and developing a distinctive voice. With a storytelling approach, his fluid and deeply rooted debut, Outer Space, earned him an Edison Jazz Award, marking him as a rising force in contemporary jazz.
As an Artist in Focus at North Sea Round Town 2025, Somuah will collaborate with a diverse range of artists from various musical backgrounds, scenes, and cultures. Among those joining him are Ildo Nandja, Dane Paris, Anton de Bruin, Talal Fayad, Sanem Kalfa (Artist in Focus NSRT 2023), and special guests such as Cassie Kinoshi, the Mercury Prize-nominated composer, arranger, and alto saxophonist known for her work with Kokoroko, Nubya Garcia, and Sons of Kemet. The projects will be presented in partnership with BIRD, House of Knowledge, WORM, and Space is the Place, along with exciting new partners and locations to be announced.
